Sterling Seacrest’s Brent Reece was quoted in the November Issue of the ED Legal Letter on how to prevent lawsuits from arising after emergency room care. Brent talks about the importance of detailed documentation and notes that “depending on where the lawsuit is filed, the statute of limitation on these cases can be several years.” It may be several years after the care was rendered before the provider is asked to provide details.
The article provides great advice for emergency room physicians with recommendations for post-discharge contact, follow up care instructions, and good charting.
